Error during signature setup

Updated this week

When pushing signatures from your Dashboard, you might encounter the following error message:

"Signature has not been set due to an error (please check in Google Workspace that the service is activated for the user and the address is valid)"

that looks in Dashboard like this:

Why does this happen?

Service Not Enabled for the User's OU: The most common reason for this error is that the user whose signature you tried to set belongs to an Organizational Unit (OU) in Google Workspace that doesn't have the SignatureSatori app enabled.

Gmail Not Activated: Another frequent issue is that it is a brand-new user who has not logged in yet and hasn't activated their Gmail account.

How to Fix: Enable SignatureSatori in Google Workspace

To resolve the primary cause, you need to ensure the SignatureSatori app is turned on for the affected users. We recommend enabling it for everyone to prevent future issues, but you can also enable it for specific OUs.

You can check and change this setting directly from your Google Admin console by following these steps:

Step 1: Locate the App in your Admin Console

  1. Sign in to your Google Admin console using an administrator account.

  2. Go to Menu > Apps > Google Workspace Marketplace apps > Apps list.

  3. Locate and click on SignatureSatori.

  4. Click on View organisational units and groups in the User access box.

Step 2: Turn the Service On

Option A: Turn on for everyone in your organization (Recommended)

  1. Click On for everyone.

  2. Click Save.

Option B: Turn on for a specific Organizational Unit (OU)

  1. In the left-hand panel, select the specific organizational unit that the affected user belongs to.

  2. Change the Service status to On.

  3. Choose one of the following to save your settings:

    • If the Service status is set to Inherited, click Override to keep your updated setting even if the parent setting changes.

    • If the Service status is set to Overridden, click Save to keep the new setting.

Note: Changes made in the Google Admin console can take up to 24 hours to propagate to all users, though they typically happen much more quickly.

Once you have verified that the service is enabled you can return to the SignatureSatori and try pushing the signature again.
